ULI Washington Young Leaders Group: A Service Opportunity – Capital Area Food Bank Event Recap

On February 2nd, a group of about 20 volunteers joined us at the Capital Area Food Bank. Volunteers spent about three hours packing bags of food filled with items from cereal to canned vegetables. We went through dozens of pounds of food, sorting and packing, so that the items could be delivered to the Food Bank’s partner organizations to serve the hungry. 2012 THEARC Holiday Volunteer Event Recap

By William Rich Around 20 volunteers from ULI Washington’s Young Leaders Group went to the Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC) in the Congress Heights neighborhood of the District of Columbia on Monday, December 3 to help out at their annual holiday party. Volunteers assisted children with trimming the holiday tree in the lobby before having their pictures taken with Santa. YLG: Kingman Island Earth Day Clean-up Recap

This past weekend three hundred and forty one volunteers participated in the Earth Day clean up at Kingman Island.  The Urban Land Institute was a proud sponsor along with EarthShare and the Anacosita Watershed Society.  Many young leaders from the Urban Land Institute dedicated their Saturday mornings to help clean up the 1.28 tons of trash and clear away more than 5,000 square feet of weeds and invasive species.

ULI Washington Provide-A-Meal (SOME) Volunteer Event Recap

March 24, 2012 So Others Might Eat (SOME) has been serving the District’s Homeless since 1970.  With a  commitment to giving back to our community, volunteers from the Washington DC’s ULI Young Leaders group served food, set tables, and washed dishes for a busy Saturday morning in SOME’s main dining room.  The turnout of volunteers was amazing and, besides a few milk spills, went-off without a hitch.  In sticking with it’s focus on Real Estate, the group toured a nearby development still under construction. The Miracle League of Alexandria – Young Leaders Community Service Committee

On October 22, 2011, ULI members stepped up to the plate and volunteered with the Miracle League of Alexandria to help individuals with special needs play ball. The Miracle League works with the City of Alexandria to provide safe opportunities to a population that needs an extra hand to enjoy outdoor recreational activities in a fun and friendly environment.
