Miracle League of Alexandria Service Event Recap


Last Saturday, October 15th, the ULI Young Leaders held a volunteer event with the Miracle League of Alexandria and had a great turn out with over 15 people with idyllic weather.  ULI Washington volunteers assisted special needs adults in playing a game of baseball.  The volunteers were matched up with players in the field to help throw the ball around the diamond during each play.  They also helped by being the announcers and base coaches.  A great time was had by all volunteers and players.

Community Forklift Volunteer Event Recap

On Saturday, April 16th, a group of ULI Young Leaders spent the day volunteering at Community Forklift in Hyattsville, MD. Community Forklift is a non-profit reuse center that provides home improvement materials, appliances, and fixtures at a low and affordable cost to the public. These materials are procured through donations of unwanted and salvaged materials throughout the entire DC metropolitan area. Interfaith Clothing Center Service Event Recap


Last Saturday, February 6th, a group of ULI Young Leaders spent the morning volunteering at the Interfaith Works’ Clothing Center in Rockville, MD. Interfaith Works is a nonprofit agency that provides a range of services to meet the needs of the poor and homeless in Montgomery County. The Interfaith Clothing Center provides qualified, low-income families with clothing and home goods free of charge, allowing them to use more of their resources on food, rent, utilities, medicine, and other basic needs. ULI Washington Holiday Service Opportunity: Community of Hope Holiday Market Event Recap


On Saturday, December 12th, over 35 ULI Washington Young Leaders volunteered at Community of Hope’s Holiday Market Event at the organizations Conway Health Center in Southwest DC.  ULI Washington provided and helped children build gingerbread houses and with arts and crafts, along with greeting, distributing toys and helping with handing out hot chocolate and cookies. So Others Might Eat: Landscaping Volunteer Event Recap


Last Saturday, April 25th, a group of ULI Young Leaders spent the morning volunteering for So Others Might Eat (SOME) in Washington DC. SOME operates transitional housing facilities called Jordan House and Mary Claire House in the NOMA/Gallaudet neighborhood of DC, which share are large, tranquil back yard that its clients enjoy during their stay at the houses. Clean-up of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal in Georgetown Event Recap


On Saturday, April 25th, approximately 15 ULI volunteers and friends dedicated their morning to clean-up the C & O Canal in Georgetown.  Working in partnership with the Georgetown Business Improvement District (BID), the volunteers painted over graffiti under several roadway overpasses and walls along the canal and also helped pick up trash.  Many passersby appreciated the efforts and thanked the team for their work beautifying the beloved historic landmark, recreational trail, and circulation route through Georgetown.  The efforts of the volunteers directly supported the goals of the Georgetown BID, which … Read More

Habitat ReSale Store Volunteer Event Recap

This past Saturday, March 7th, about 15 ULI Young Leaders volunteered at the Habitat ReSale Store in Silver Spring MD. We spent at fun-filled day helping Habitat accept donations, as well as price, display, and sell store inventory. Several members even found some items they just couldn’t resist! ULI Washington Young Leader Capital Area Food Bank Service Event Recap


A group of approximately 14 Young Leaders volunteered on Saturday, February 22 at the Capital Area Food Bank in Washington, DC. Over 2,000 food packages were prepared for distribution to those who suffer from hunger in the Washington metro area. Bread for the City Event Recap


Around 25 volunteers from ULI Washington’s Young Leaders Group went to Bread for the City in the Shaw neighborhood of the District of Columbia on Saturday, November 16 to help sort and bag food donations for Thanksgiving dinners. This holiday season, Bread for the City provided 8,000 healthy holiday meals for low-income DC residents, complete with turkey and all of the trimmings. Young Leaders Community Service Event – The Miracle League of Alexandria


On Saturday afternoon the Miracle League of Alexandria (MLA) hosted ULI at their 2013 season opener at Kelley Cares Miracle Field in old town Alexandria.
