Innovation Update: Transit-Oriented Development’s Return on Investment


Metro has created a new tool that that quantifies the relationship between land use and rail ridership.  It helps estimate ridership and revenue from transit-oriented development projects near Metrorail stations.  WMATA planning staff worked with the University of Maryland’s National Center for Smart Growth to create the tool to help people understand the large changes in ridership in the system and why certain station areas – like Navy Yard and NoMa – were showing ridership gains while the system as a whole is experiencing losses in thelong arc of ridership growth.   To find out more about the … Read More

In less than four months, members of Maven - General Motors' personal mobility brand - have driven more than one million miles. The car-sharing program is now operational in Chicago (pictured here) with pricing starting at $8 an hour including insurance and fuel.
