ULI Washington Played Ball! with the Miracle League of Alexandria

The Young Leaders’ Community Service Service Committee hit a home run on Saturday, October 20th volunteering with the Miracle League of Alexandria. Roughly 20 volunteers from a wide array of ULI’s membership helped developmentally disabled participates play an exciting baseball game. Volunteers were used in the field, on the base paths, as cheerleaders, and to MC the festive event. In addition to the action on the field, volunteers and participants provided entertainment by dancing between innings – a Miracle League tradition. Why not grow your own food! ULI Washington Young Leaders get hands on with 11th Street Park Bridge Plots and DC Housing Authority residents

About 40 volunteers came out to build an urban farm plot, in a DC Housing Authority owned site, located near Capitol Hill. Volunteers included ULI members and their friends, 11th Street Park Bridge Plots organizers and their affiliates and some local residents. Everyone worked side-by-side. Volunteers worked hard and enjoyed each other’s company in the process. Once Again, ULI Washington Young Leaders Get their Hands Dirty with City Blossoms!

ULI flexed its muscles this past weekend, teaming up with City Blossoms to rehabilitate a garden at the Eagle Academy PCS in Southeast DC. With only three hours to complete this project, it was all hands on deck from the start as the City Blossoms team split the volunteers into a few groups, each focused on a different phase of the project. ULI Washington Holiday Service Opportunity: Community of Hope Holiday Market Event Recap

On Saturday, December 9th, over 35 ULI Washington Young Leaders volunteered at Community of Hope’s Holiday Market Event at the organizations Conway Health Center in Southwest DC.  ULI Washington volunteers helped children build gingerbread houses and with arts and crafts, along with making holiday cards, distributing toys and helping with handing out hot chocolate and cookies. Construction 101: From Plans to Punchlist Event Recap

On Monday, November 20, the Young Leaders Group hosted its first Real Estate 101 discussion of the season, this focused on “Construction 101.”  The event combined a strong theoretical foundation with real-world insight to give attendees a complete picture of the challenges and opportunities in constructing a building. Sirens, Squash, and Stacks: A Tour of Westlight and Square 50

On November 8th, 2017, the Young Leaders Group Programs Committee hosted “Sirens, Squash, and Stacks” with a tour of Westlight and the Square 50 project in the West End neighborhood of Washington, DC. The Westlight (2301 L Street NW) and Square 50 (2233 M Street NW) were developed by EastBanc and JBG Smith through a unique joint public/private partnership with the District. DCBIA 25th Annual Community Improvement Day Event Recap

On Saturday, September 23rd, approximately 10 ULI Washington Young Leaders volunteered at DCBIA’s 25th Community Improvement Day at DHCA’s Benning Terrace Community Center in Southeast DC.  DCBIA’s vision is to help make Washington, DC a vibrant city that is meeting significant challenges to be a livable, competitive and thriving community for all.  ULI Washington helped improve the site for Benning Terrace residents by shoveling mulch, planting new shrubs, and weaving ribbon designs into the fence (using the Benning Terrace Football team colors).  This year’s DCBIA Community Improvement Day had over … Read More
