2nd Annual Bike Tour de DC: Bridging the Anacostia River Event Recap

On June 18, the Young Leaders Group’s Programs Committee hosted a bike tour of development along the Anacostia River. Over 60 bikers met at the Yards Park on a beautiful Saturday morning and biked to the site of the future 11th Street Bridge Park where they met with Scott Kratz, Director for the project. Mr. Kratz showed exciting renderings of the future park and shared details about its inception, outreach and planning. The tours then crossed the bridge into Anacostia where they learned about the community including opportunities for development such as the MLK Gateway and the challenges of gentrification. Bikers then rode along the Anacostia Riverfront trail and crossed the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge to meet with representatives of WC Smith for an information session on their Sheridan Station project in Anacostia as well as their new Park Chelsea apartment building in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood. Next, tours biked to the construction site of F1rst for a hard hat tour of the mixed use project, led by the event sponsor, Clark Enterprises. Attendees were impressed by the building’s amenities as well as the views of the ballpark, river and DC skyline. Finally, the tours concluded with a networking reception on the patio of a local restaurant.
