EYA Fall Full Member Sponsor Spotlight Recap

EYA was established in 1992 with the vision of building innovative urban neighborhoods to the highest standards. The company has made its name and reputation by creating high quality, lifestyle friendly, residential communities throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area.  In nineteen years, EYA has constructed more than 3,000 homes in the cities of Alexandria and Washington D.C., and in Arlington, Montgomery, Prince George’s, and Fairfax counties. Its development team has tackled some of the most challenging sites in the region, from building on the banks of the Potomac River to revitalizing passed-over neighborhoods. The most important elements of EYA’s projects are the ability to integrate their projects into existing communities and to provide housing opportunities to all levels of home buyer within their communities.

At this Sponsor Spotlight, the following questions were posed:

–      Market Overview – What residential markets are hot? What are the next emerging metro DC markets/locations and who are the future buyers?
–       Sustainability – Lessons Learned: the pros and cons of incorporating  sustainability elements in residential development?
–       East of the River – What is the potential for creating successful market rate housing East of the River?

It became clear that it would not be possible in the allotted time to answer all of these questions but a vigorous discussion about what areas attendees see as “ripe” for continuing development and redevelopment took place.  Where would attendees invest?  Answers ranged from downtown Silver Spring, to Petworth, to H Street, possibly East of the River, and the DC Waterfront.
