Calling all cyclists and intrepid urban explorers! The Purple Line Transit Partners broke ground on their new light rail line in September, embarking on what is currently the largest public private partnership in the country. The 16-mile route connects Bethesda, Silver Spring, and New Carrollton, weaving together the loose threads of the WMATA metro system. The result provides new opportunities in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties for transit-oriented developments in previously isolated places, and an invigoration of existing urban cores.
The Young Leaders Group’s Programs Committee is excited to announce its 4th annual ULI Washington Bike Tour, “Promise on the Purple Line” at 9:30am on June 2nd, 2018 featuring speakers from players realizing the vision of the Purple Line and developers bringing growth to Montgomery County along its path. The 8-mile tour embarks from the Bethesda Metro Plaza, stops first at 7272 Wisconsin Ave, the westernmost Purple Line stop and future site of three towers, travels through Chevy Chase to Connecticut Avenue to the second Purple Line stop, which creates connectivity for a hive of transit-oriented development at Chevy Chase Lake, and swings across Rock Creek Park into downtown Silver Spring, which is buzzing with development activity around the three Purple Line stops there. Riders looking for a veritable workout along with their morning dose of urban exploration are invited to meet outside Malmaison in Georgetown (3401 Water St NW) to cycle 8 additional miles together up the Capital Crescent Trail to meet the larger group at registration in Bethesda. The ride will take place rain or shine.
No bike, no problem! This ride is Capital Bikeshare friendly.
50 cyclists will receive complimentary limited edition 2018 ULI Bike Tour T-shirt. Informal Networking reception to follow at the finish line!
