Young Leader Mentor Groups Tour 1200 17th Street

By Lin Mao

On Friday, April 4, 2014, three ULI Washington Young Leaders mentorship groups joined to tour Akridge’s LEED Platinum office project in Dupont Circle at 1200 17th Street NW, Washington, DC. The project tour is hosted by Sean Flynn, Project Manager at Balfour Beatty, the general contractor, and Allen Beall,Associate Partner at ZGF Architects, the principal architect. A walk-through of a nearly-delivered core-and-shell building educates the mentees on multi-facted issues in construction and project management from the perspectives of both the general contractor and the architect, especially for a highly valued LEED Platinum office project that has been half pre-leased to a coveted tenant. Tour began with presentations by both the general contractor and the architect, then proceeded with detailed walk-through of three distinct floors (the lobby, a typical office level, and the high-ceiling top floor), and concluded with final thoughts on the building’s programmed roof deck.
