Washington, DC (December 9, 2020) – ULI Washington hosted its 2020 Trends Awards program, where the winners of the awards were announced.
The 2020 Trends Awards Winners are:
Excellence in Housing Affordability: St. James Plaza (AHC, Inc)
Excellence in Housing Development: Studio 3807 (Landex Development, LLC)
Excellence in Mixed-Use Development: Liz (Fivesquares Development and Whitman-Walker Health System)
Excellence in Office Development: 655 New York Avenue (Brookfield Properties and Douglas Development)
Excellence in Sustainability: Unisphere (United Therapeutics)
Excellence in Institutional Development: 21st Century DC Schools Modernization Plan (DC Dept. of General Services)
Juror’s Choice Award: Parkstone Alexandria (Alexandria Housing Development Corporation)
Following the announcement of the awards, attendees heard from Keynote Speaker Marcie Merriman, EY Americas’ Cultural Insight and Customer Strategy Leader. Merriman discussed how Generation Z is adapting to COVID, work-from-home, and the deployment of digital technology. She shared insights about how this generation is reshaping everything from housing to work, to lifestyle choices, undoubtedly impacting the next real estate trends for years to come.
After Merriman’s presentation, a local ULI member panel responded to the presentation, led by Katie Bucklew, Trends Awards Jury Chair and Vice President- Mixed-Use, AvalonBay Communities. Panelists included Julie Smith, Chief Administrative Officer, The Bozzuto Group; Justin Chapman, Senior Development Manager, Skanska; and Ronette (Ronnie) Slamin, Senior Project Manager, Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH). The panelists talked about how generational differences impact their workplace and the societal and cultural behavior changes they see in their own companies and across the real estate industry.
