This past Monday, the ULI RE 101 Team, hosted a lively panel at Studio Theater on Design and Development in DC entitled “Residential Development 101: Creating Value After the Buy”. It featured Martin Ditto, President and CEO of Ditto Residential, who opened up the panel with an inspirational speech on the importance and interconnectedness of design and development. Other panelists included Marisa Kashino, Senior Editor at Washingtonian Magazine, and Mark Welborn, Editor-in-Chief and Co-Founder of UrbanTurf who also shared their knowledge and expertise on the DC development landscape, especially with regards to design. The brief lecture by Mr. Ditto was followed by an extensive Q&A session, where many of the audience members raised questions on the progress and future of development in DC. The panelists responded to the questions, discussing topics such as the state of modern architecture in DC, how the Washington market is embracing modern unit layouts, and hot areas to in which to buy. All in all, the panel was a success, as 200 ULI young leader members- nearly a ULI record- came out to hear these panelists dish out their views on design and development and the future of DC.
