    Join us for a case study event as we explore Chevy Chase Lake, a vibrant mixed-use community nestled in the heart of Chevy Chase, Maryland. This event will include a tour of Chevy Chase Lake.

    Chevy Chase Lake is located in Chevy Chase, Maryland between Friendship Heights in Washington, DC, Bethesda , and .5 miles south of I-495 entrance, the newly completed Chevy Chase Lake is part of a new commercial mixed use community along Connecticut Avenue. It has 500 feet of prime frontage on Connecticut Avenue. The project is directly connected to the forthcoming Purple Line via a newly landscaped plaza, linking the site one stop to the east to Silver Spring and one stop to the west to downtown Bethesda.

    The 790K SF project was constructed in two phases that included 466 apartments, 65 for-sale condos, and approximately 95,000 SF of retail. The Barrett is a 280-unit apartment building that opened in 2022. The Ritz Carlton Residences, Chevy Chase is a 65-unit condo building that opened in 2022. The Claude, the third and last building completed in this stage of construction, is a 186-unit apartment building that opened in 2023.

    In addition, the 95,000 SF of retail offers neighborhood-oriented retail offerings, including to date: AmazonFresh, CVS Pharmacy, Truist Bank, Elena James Restaurant, Dok Khao Thai Eatery, Stretchlab, The Charmery, Uncorked Wine and Beer, SEV Laser, RTR Pilates, and Playa Bowls.

    Also included in the project is approximately 1-acre of open space that offers open lawn areas, a Streetcar art sculpture, water features, and café seating, all of which is also being used to program community events such as concert series, food events, holiday festivals, and more.

    John Ziegenhein

    Chevy Chase Land Company

    John Ziegenhein is responsible for the overall operation, management and growth of The Chevy Chase Land Company, including leading the formulation and implementation of the company’s annual business strategy. John has led the structuring and financing of over $2 billion in all U.S. real estate asset types during his 20 years in commercial real estate, with expertise in acquiring value-add properties, structuring equity investments in joint venture development projects, purchasing distressed debt, and providing advisory services on real estate investment strategies for institutions, pension funds and high net worth individuals. Previously, Mr. Ziegenhein was part of the executive team at The Bear Companies and a Vice President at ASB Capital Management. Mr. Ziegenhein received an MBA with a finance concentration from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland and a B.A. in Political Science from Randolph-Macon College. Mr. Ziegenhein is very supportive numerous local charities, including a 6 year board membership for Arlington Food Assistance Center and active participation with the Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing.

    Justin Kennell

    Bozzuto Management Company

    As a Vice President at Bozzuto Development Company, Justin leads the direction and execution of mixed-use development projects in Washington, D.C., and Maryland. He is responsible for managing all phases of development, including acquisition, entitlement, design, financing, construction, lease-up and disposition. He is currently leading the development of Chevy Chase Lake, a multi-phase project consisting of 466 apartments, 65 condos, one acre of public space, and 95,000sf of retail located in Chevy Chase, MD. Justin is an active member of the Urban Land Institute. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Finance from Towson University and a Master of Science in Real Estate and Infrastructure from Johns Hopkins University.

    Jingpeng Gu

    President, MAHAN RYKIEL ASSOCIATES, INC.

    Jingpeng Gu joined Mahan Rykiel in 2003 and has set a new standard for design excellence in a broad range of project sectors including housing, hospitality, mixed use, parks, urban design and streetscape, and corporate landscape design. With a dual degree of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, Peng brings a truly unique perspective to landscape architectural design with a greater understanding of the relationship between buildings and their surrounding spaces. Peng believes that landscape architecture is not only a way of resolving space but also a way of creating relationships between people and nature, and among ourselves. Her passion is to build spaces that are sustainable, functional, beautiful, and inspiring; landscapes that can live and breathe with people and be a part of their lives. With more than 15 years of experience, Peng has delivered numerous thoughtful, award-winning projects. These projects have become great assets to the community and continue to serve as places for people to celebrate their unique natural environment and rich cultural heritage.

    Joshua Arcurio

    David M. Schwarz Architects, Inc.

    Joshua Arcurio is an Associate and the Design Technology Administrator at David M. Schwarz Architects. Joshua received a Bachelor of Architecture and Economics Minor from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, and is a longtime member of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) and the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU). Josh’s recent project experience at DMSAS has focused on transit-oriented, mixed-use planning and architecture projects like Chevy Chase Lake and Riverside Station. A former college radio DJ, he is well-suited for his current role as Project Architect on an 8,000-seat outdoor amphitheater in Huntsville, Alabama. Prior to joining the firm in 2014, he spent nearly a decade working under Teófilo Victoria, Seaside’s first Town Architect, Maria de la Guardia, and Ernesto Buch on projects featured in several publications, including the books Traditional Architecture: Timeless Building for the Twenty-First Century, Classical Interiors: Historical and Contemporary, and New Palladians, and the ICAA’s Classicist journal. Joshua sees architecture as a process, a civic contribution, and a collaborative art that can pursue beauty and the sublime, and represent the values and aspirations of a community. In addition, Josh has a keen interest and expertise in digital technology implementation, maintenance, and training, furthering the office’s ability to create architecture that, in the words of Alberti, “gives comfort and the greatest pleasure to [hu]mankind, to individual and community alike”. Outside the office, he enjoys meditation, crossword puzzles, and researching the intersection of sociological and economic conditions with the built environment in his hometown of Johnstown, Pennsylvania.

    Brady Davidow

    Director of Preconstruction, The Bozzuto Group

    As Director of Preconstruction, Brady leads the preconstruction team in the planning and coordination of projects during preconstruction, which includes managing the budget, schedule and overall project approach. Brady also acts as a pricing and Value Engineering resource, working closely with the design team to generate referrals/ leads and achieve project goals. Likewise, he is responsible for making sure every deliverable meets Bozzuto Construction’s quality standards, as well as owner expectations. Brady earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Political Science from Frostburg State University.

    Meghan Trossen

    Capital One

    Meghan oversees Marketing and Community Affairs for Capital One Center, a 3 million square foot mixed-use development at the footsteps of Capital One's global HQ in Tysons, Virginia. Capital One Center includes a world-class performing arts venue, 2.5 acre sky park, 300 key hotel, a baseball stadium, and 250,000 square feet of retail. Her professional experience includes service as Director of Programs and Partnerships for the Tysons Partnership, a public-private partnership designated as the Implementation Entity for the 40-year Master Redevelopment of Tysons; service as Director of U.S. Operations for the Economic Growth Initiative-Haiti, a business accelerator and community development organization in Port-au-Prince; and seven years managing philanthropic partnerships for global nonprofits, including The Pew Charitable Trusts and the United Nations Foundation. She holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Virginia Tech, and an MBA from the University of Notre Dame, where she served as Chief Administrative Officer for the Mendoza Business School's Business on the Front Lines program in Indonesia. Meghan was elected into the inaugural ULI Rising Leader Scholarship Program, and previously served on the ULI Placemaking and Education committees, WLI Circles, and ULI Mentor/Mentee Program. Outside of ULI, Meghan is a Leadership Fairfax Alumna and serves on America's Charities Board of Directors and NAIOP Developing Leaders Committee. Most recently, she was recognized as one of Northern Virginia's '40 Under 40' Leaders. In her free time she enjoys boxing, running with her Siberian Husky, performing in improv comedy theatre, and sampling wine; she has a Wine & Spirit Education Trust Level 2 Sommelier Certification.
