Members of ULI Washington are always eager to explore new topics related to real estate and planning. This summer, ULI Washington is proud to offer two new Initiative Councils – the Prince George’s Initiative Council and the Innovation + Technology Initiative Council.
Previous Initiative Councils provide a space for our members to engage in more specific and on-going discussions around specific topics alongside a cohort of other members. While space in Initiative Councils is more limited than other offerings, our staff and member co-chairs work to create a smaller space that can better facilitate discussion, learning, and networking opportunities throughout the year of programing.
The Prince George’s Initiative Council represents the first geographically-defined council offered in ULI Washington’s history. Prince George’s County is home to a vibrant community present in the greater Washington region and home to many sites and exciting developments. In the history of the greater region, the progress of Prince George’s County has been overlooked by some as attention and interest was provided to other outlying municipalities. ULI Washington recognizes both this history and exciting future of development in the county, and seeks to convene this Initiative Council to bring together both those already engaged in the larger development community and those who seek to learn more about it. In May, the Initiative Council hosted a kick-off virtual event including guest speakers from the County Executive Office, Bozzuto, WMATA, and Gilbane Development that included over 250 participants. A recording of the event can be accessed HERE.
Previously, ULI Washington has hosted a number of events and awards related to innovation in the development field. As we’ve continued these offerings, members expressed interest in a more specific space to discuss innovative design and programing alongside the technology that supports it. The Innovation + Technology Initiative Council aims to bring together those working in the development space and may already be engaged in some of these topics for ongoing programing throughout the year. Topics identified by the council include financial tech, construction tech, e-commerce, telecommunication, sustainability, and co-living amongst many other topics. Given the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic, discussions around the technology and techniques to support both remote work and how workers will return to their offices are also a focus for this council.
ULI Washington members interested in applying for either of these opportunities can do so via Navigator. Non-members who are interested in becoming a member to apply for these opportunities can find more information on our Membership page.
