ULI Washington’s UrbanPlan program kicked off the summer on Saturday, June 5th with an UrbanPlan community workshop for residents of Wards 7 and 8. Co-sponsored by Fairlawn Citizens Association and Marshall Heights Community Development Organization and hosted by ULI Washington, the workshop was the first in a series of UrbanPlan community workshops planned for Wards 7 and 8. The workshops are designed to help residents more deeply engage in land-use decisions and support them in taking an active role as engaged citizens to create better communities. Among the participants were ANC members, representatives from several neighborhood and civic associations and the Fletcher-Johnson task force.
The workshop culminated in a presentation by Ellen McCarthy and Kay Pierson regarding resources available to residents living in areas experiencing redevelopment. Many thanks to workshop instructor Bridget Obikoya, and to the following ULI Washington UrbanPlan volunteers whose time and support made it possible: Aileen Horn, Andrea Wise Smith, Anna McCorvey, Ashley Robertson, Bradley Cambridge, Daughan Pitts, Ellen McCarthy, Fabiola Yurcisin, Funmi Obasohan, John Coe, Kamran Momenzadeh, Kay Pierson, Michelle Chang, Pradipta Banerjee, Rob Klein, and Robert Atkinson.
